Leonard Shaykin, has just launched this great company in China—high quality, full service, parking garages. For any of us that have tried to park a car in Shanghai, we know the problem this will address! He is desperately looking to hire talent—specifically two recent MBAs, two recent Undergrads, plus a host of others in HR, Real Estate, Construction, etc. For the later positions, Leonard may well use a search firm but I am trying to help him with the MBAs and Undergrads to start. See details below. Job Opportunities at Harmony: Harmony is a young company--set up as a full-service parking development and management company in mainland China. Harmony approaches local governments and offers services to develop, design, build and subsequently manage public parking garages in the PRC. We bring into the country, by way of a PE/Infrastructure Fund structure offshore institutional capital to invest in the design/build/manage program. Bechtel will manage construction throughout China; Walker parking the premier parking architectural firm in the world, will be designing all of the structures both above and below ground. Harmony just launched in Hangzhou having been funded by a large US based money management firm. Harmony is in the process of underwriting the first dozen garage investments—roughly two to four garages a month. There are 12 on the payroll now and Harmony is looking to hire many individuals at different levels. Most immediately, Harmony is seeking to hire two MBAs and two Undergraduates in Finance or Accounting who will work on a team to pull together the analysis required for underwriting. Key skills are financial modeling, dual Mandarin/English speaking skills and strong writing skills in one language or the other. The role is in Hangzhou but a Shanghai location can be accommodated with a daily commute. The positions will have dual reporting: in China, to Lee Sands, Harmony's President (Lee speaks fluent Mandarin, 30 years in China, was in the US State Department for 20 years ending his career as chief US trade negotiator for the US to China for the WTO for the decade of the 90’s) and to the Chief Investment Officer of Harmony, Shakeel Abdul, who is resident in Chicago but travels to China every month. Shakeel is a CPA, CFA formerly with GTCR (a large PE firm) and E&Y as an auditor. These entry level positions have several possible career tracks--not only on the financial, research, strategy side of the business but also general management and operations and P&L responsibility, as Harmony's garage management business begins to have assets under management. We will be replicating our model in other cities in Eastern China so the opportunities for more responsibility are significant. Salaries are market competitive.
